Mission

MSB Mission

Market Sales Benchmark (MSB) is the independent benchmark of Financial Markets sales coverage, created to capture and compare the quality of sales coverage experienced by Financial Markets professionals.

In today's markets, relationships are shaped by the quality of client engagement, market insight, product expertise, execution support and service delivered through sales coverage. While institutions are regularly compared at franchise level, there has historically been no consistent independent framework focused specifically on the client experience of Financial Markets sales coverage.

MSB was created to address this gap.

Through verified feedback from institutional market participants, MSB applies a consistent and transparent methodology to benchmark sales coverage across asset classes, institutions and regions. Our objective is to help financial institutions understand how their coverage compares with the market, identify strengths and improve the client experience.

Individual sales coverage information is never made public. Public recognition is limited to institution-level rankings and awards. Confidential individual feedback is shared only with the relevant participating institution, and only for its own employees.

Our mission is to become the independent reference benchmark for Financial Markets sales coverage worldwide.

Guiding Principles

01
Independence

Feedback is collected directly from verified market participants and is not influenced by participating institutions or sales.

02
Fairness

Minimum participation thresholds and quality controls help ensure results are meaningful, representative and balanced.

03
Transparency

Methodology, participation requirements and reporting principles are clearly defined and consistently applied.

04
Confidentiality

Respondents control their visibility preferences, while additional anti-identification safeguards help protect confidentiality.

05
Benchmark Integrity

Verification procedures, participation thresholds and data standardization support the integrity and consistency of the benchmark.

Through verified client feedback, MSB produces an independent market benchmark while maintaining strict confidentiality, consistent methodology and benchmark integrity.

How Feedback Is Structured

Matrix-Based Submission

Each verified respondent identifies the various sales covering the asset class they are active in and provides feedback across the 7 coverage dimensions.

Each respondent must provide feedback on at least 5 sales.

Multiple submissions are allowed but only one per asset class.

The process is designed to take less than five minutes.

Asset Classes

Respondents can contribute for the following asset classes:

  • FX
  • Rates
  • Credit
  • Equities
  • Commodities
  • E-Com

Client Experience Scale

ScoreDescription
0Very Dissatisfied
1Below Expectations
2Meets Some Expectations
3Meets Expectations
4Exceeds Expectations
5Outstanding Client Experience

Respondents should provide feedback based on their overall experience of the sales coverage received during the benchmark period, rather than on isolated transactions or events.

Star Sales Election

Each respondent may elect one Star Sales within each asset class submission to recognize exceptional overall client coverage and service quality. Election is not mandatory.

Star Sales Elections are recorded separately from numerical scores and do not contribute directly to score calculations, ensuring that qualitative recognition remains separate from the numerical benchmark.

Benchmark Rules & Standards

Private vs Public Reporting

Confidential Sales-Level Reporting

Participating institutions receive confidential benchmark reports relating exclusively to their own sales professionals, including dimension-level results, peer benchmark comparisons, Star Sales recognition and coverage insights.

Individual sales-level results are never published publicly.

Public Institution-Level Reporting

MSB publishes institution-level rankings and awards by asset class and region.

Public results recognize leading sales franchises based on aggregated client feedback. No individual sales-level results are publicly disclosed.

Privacy & Visibility

Privacy Options

Respondents select one of three visibility options governing how their information may appear in confidential sales-level reports shared only with the relevant participating institution. Respondent details are never published publicly, regardless of the option selected:

  • Full Anonymity: displayed as Anonymous.
  • Partial Visibility: only base country and participant type are displayed.
  • Full Visibility: name, organization, base country and participant type are displayed.

Respondent Confidentiality Safeguards

Additional safeguards are applied to reduce the risk of identifying respondents who have selected Partial Visibility.

Base country and participant type are displayed only where at least two respondents providing feedback on the relevant sales professional share the same combination of base country and participant type. Where this threshold is not met, the respondent is displayed as Anonymous.

Participation & Integrity

Verification & Participation Requirements

Participation is restricted to verified Financial Markets professionals. Verification is a one-time process completed using a professional work email, Bloomberg email or LinkedIn profile. Submissions that cannot be automatically verified may be reviewed manually by the MSB team.

Each respondent may submit one benchmark response per asset class, and each submission must include feedback on a minimum of five sales professionals.

To qualify for public institution-level rankings within an asset class and region, an institution must have received feedback on at least 15 different sales professionals.

Integrity & Quality Controls

Internal employee reviews are prohibited. Respondents may not evaluate sales professionals employed by their own institution. Bank-to-bank responses may be subject to enhanced review and additional validation.

MSB applies quality controls designed to identify duplicate submissions, unusual scoring patterns, score inflation or deflation, conflicts of interest, incomplete responses and attempts to influence benchmark outcomes. Responses that do not meet MSB quality standards may be excluded from the benchmark.

MSB may periodically review and refine its methodology, participation requirements and reporting standards to maintain the consistency, fairness and integrity of the benchmark.

What MSB Is Not

MSB does not assess revenue generation, profitability, market share, wallet share or trading performance.

MSB is not an employee appraisal platform. It captures confidential client feedback regarding Financial Markets sales coverage and produces comparative market insights designed to support service improvement and professional development.

MSB does not publicly publish rankings of individual sales.
